History of the Shelver Name From Old Norway

Compiled by both Mr. Stanley Raymond Shelver and Peter Schneider within three years of each other. Both men quote from the same source, a 1949 three volume Norse set entitled Grueboka by Harold Hveberg, Vol. I & II, Kirkenaer, Norway. Since the source is the same, I have combined their work into one. As of January, 1978, Stanley Raymond Shelver owned a copy of the Grueboka. Our great appreciation to both of these men!

Please click on the link above to view the history.  The work has been entered verbatim to the extent that this is possible.  I have used Mr. Schneider's abbreviations, and I have added state abbreviations.  Milton Shelver's corrections and additions are in italics.  Where formatting did not follow the order of names Mr. Schneider listed, I adjusted it to match the order so as not to confuse readers.

Annabelle Shelver was born Selma Constance Lea.  When a lovely young single woman, the song "The Beautiful Annabelle Lea" was popular.  Hence the nickname Annabelle.

Written by the wife of a Shelver descendant, MASSACRE: Daughter of War offers a rare glimpse into the fragility of life in colonial days.
